Ahead of the major Yoshitomo Nara exhibition that coincided with the Dallas Contemporary’s re-opening in January 2021, the museum released a never-before-seen print by the Japanese artist called Real One. This is the first release of 1,000 prints of an open edition.
The print depicts one of Nara’s big-headed children holding onto a teddy bear in one hand and scissors in the other. A small skull barrette adorns her hair, while she smiles wickedly at the open pair of scissors. Like other Nara works, the potentially dangerous object in the child’s hand contrasts with her small size and childish innocence.
