Wedgwood’s Ravenstone matte black glaze [along with its counterpart white glaze, Moonstone] was developed in the 1930s by Norman Wilson, master potter, inventor, and Wedgwood Works Manager. More satin or eggshell than matte, the glaze accentuates the urn’s classic form. This version is slightly taller/thinner than Wedgwood Ravenstone Urn #1 and its glaze has a bit more shine. I presume it is of a more recent vintage. Together they make a fine if not perfectly matched pair.
