Robert Venturi, the recognized patriarch of postmodernism who drew inspiration from diverse historical sources, created this innovative design for Swid Powell in 1986 with his partner Denise Scott Brown. He cleverly intersected two planar silhouettes in a cruciform arrangement to form a three-dimensional standing object recycling and re-purposing the eighteenth-century Chippendale style.
