Robert Mapplethorpe [1946-1989] was a controversial photographer known for his large-scale, stylized black and white images. Whether of celebrities, nudes, self-portraits, BDSM scenes or flowers, he treated all his subjects in the same sensitive but blunt manner. In 1988 he designed 3 plates featuring his striking flower images, including "Flower, 1986" for Swid Powell.
