Alumnia was a Danish factory of faience or earthenware pottery, established in Copenhagen in 1863. In 1882, the owners of Alumnia purchased the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory. The factories operated independently under their respective trade names until 1969 when the use of Alumnia was ended.

Nils Thorsson began as an apprentice at Alumnia at age 13. He went on to become the Artistic Director from 1928-1969, whilst also doing the same job at Royal Copenhagen from 1949 onwards. Thorsson designed some of the company's best known ranges and oversaw many others. The pattern on his vase from 1952 brings to mind African textile designs.
