Aluminia was a Danish factory of faience or earthenware pottery, established in Copenhagen in 1863. In 1882, the owners of Aluminia purchased the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory. The factories operated independently under their respective trade names until 1969 when the use of Aluminia was ended.
Nils Thorsson began as an apprentice at Aluminia at age 13. He went on to become the Artistic Director from 1928-1969, whilst also doing the same job at Royal Copenhagen from 1949 onwards. Thorsson designed some of the company's best-known ranges and oversaw many others. The birds] on this vase are some of Thorsson’s least abstract interpretations of flora and fauna.
