Brian Donnelly, aka KAWS, began his career in the 1990s making clever modifications to fashion ads on bus shelters and phone booths in New York. His work can now be found in museums and private collections all over the world. The Companion – a Mickey Mouse-like figure with skull and crossbones for a head – has figured prominently in his work, from paintings and sculptures, to trainers and toys. This Brown Flayed Companion, one of a 2016 open edition sold through the Museum of Modern Art in New York, is displayed in a custom acrylic box and would make the perfect gift for Art Basel or Comic Con attendees alike.
