James Amster was an interior decorator in New York City. After a stint at Bergdorf Goodman where he opened and managed its decorating and antiques department, he opened his eponymous design firm in 1938. His clients included many businesses, shipbbuilders and hotels – among them The Pierre. He created Amster Yard in Turtle Bay.
This art deco candelabrum of chrome plated steel and curved glass rods has been attributed to Amster and was sold by Manhattan retailer Carol Stupell. The last two images are from Arts & Decoration, December 1934, page 58.
