Foro Italico is a Roman sports complex built by Mussolini for the 1944 Olympic Games. Stadio dei Marmi or Stadium of Statues, his bid to rival the Colosseum is ringed by sixty Herculean staues of white marble. Startlingly homoerotic and poetic, each statue stands twelve feet tall, nude but for the occasional headband or sandals. Gorgio Armani, who himself referenced the statues of Foro Italica in his Emporio Armani Spring 1985 ad campaign, contributes the introduction to this handsome slip-cased edition of 16 black & white and 15 four-color images.,
