Cuno Fischer (1914-1973) was a German painter; stage, textile, glass, and ceramics designer; critic; and journalist. He was also briefly both a clown and a bar pianist. Between 1962 and 1972, he created a range of bowls and vases for Rosenthal's Studio Line featuring subtle tribal style relief decoration that more than resemble [to me] body modifications or branding. The design looks like it's pushing through the "skin" of the smooth, venetian plaster-like surface of the vase.
