Connoisseur for Hire*

Art, objects and books in situ [and for sale] at my Fair Park loft/showroom.

I love hosting people in my Fair Park loft, letting them peruse my ever-changing collection, and talking to them about items they are interested in – who designed it, who made it, where I acquired it, why it’s special. I hope that my stories become their stories – how they went to this amazing loft and talked to this guy who knows a little bit about a lot and they bought these beautiful things to add to or to start a collection of their own.

I also love helping some of Dallas’ most talented and successful designers put the finishing touches on their incredible projects, adding the final texture and depth that make their interiors sing.

I’ve worked with Alice Cottrell a number of times now. Alice likes to “shop” my loft/showroom where we talk through what she’s trying to achieve and pull options to take to a client’s high-rise home. Together we try the options in situ, ultimately installing the perfect books, vintage ceramics and other design objects to compliment her uniquely polished, dramatic, and comfortable modernism.

For one of Alice's projects: I brought in the fabulous Marcel Wanders white "turned" vases, the gorgeous books and the vintage Rosenthal Ribbon vase. The throughly modern floral – brilliant spray painted succulents – is by Lauren Lightfoot.

And to the Holly Hunt mirrored tray with Lauren Lightfoot's painted horn on the kitchen island, I added a pop of much needed color with a unique 1960s Nils Thorsson "Baca" vase and matching canister.

And finally, to the former TV niche in the kitchen [which Alice cleverly had lined with the same panda marble she had installed on the island, counter and backsplash], I added a pair of small vintage Wedgwood Moonstone urns with more of Lauren Lightfoot's floral work. They really added a touch of whimsy to the dramtically modern kitchen space.

Allen Kirsch and I worked a little differently on a project recently. His stunning contemporary, woody interior called for larger scale Asian antiques as well as beautiful books. I shopped local and national dealers for the perfect items. I pulled books from my collection and brought in options that aligned with his clients’ interests. Then I compiled pictures, specs and pricing for Allen’s consideration. He chose what he wanted me to bring to the installation and I pulled it all and brought it over. We worked together to arrange the accessories and books to perfectly complement each gorgeous room. He and his clients were very happy with the results. And if they’re happy, I’m happy.

I added special books and a Moroccan incised copper tray to Allen's coffee table tableau as well as other items throughout the apartment.

I look forward to working with more of Dallas’ incredibly talented and diverse design community, helping them find unique and storied accessories for their interiors.
