The vase was created by Alvar and Aino Aalto as an entry in a design competition for the Ahlström-owned Karhula-Iittala glassworks factory in 1936 and later dsiplayed at The 1937 World's Fair in Paris. It became known as The Savoy vase because of its inclusion in their designs for The Savoy restaurant in Helsinki in 1937.
This small version of the iconic Savoy vase was produced to mark renowned Finnish designer Alvar Aalto's centennial. The vase of green glass was blown into a wooden mold and hand etched Alvar Aalto 100 1998 Iittala
